The major permanent LED roofline lighting brands — Haven, Gemstone Lights, Trimlight, and EverLights — all use similar LED node technology and aluminum channel mounting. They differ most on app quality, warranty length, color accuracy, node brightness, and installer network. Haven and Trimlight are generally considered the premium tier; Gemstone and EverLights are strong mid-market options. The brand matters less than the installer installing it.
In this guide
Why brand matters (and why installer matters more)
Permanent LED roofline lighting has exploded in the last five years, and the marketing from every brand sounds nearly identical: app-controlled, millions of colors, weatherproof, warranty, invisible by day. It's hard to tell them apart from a website.
The honest truth: the technology is similar across the top brands. All of them use small LED nodes on custom-cut wire, mounted in an aluminum or polymer channel along your fascia board. The differences are real but often smaller than the marketing suggests.
What matters just as much — arguably more — is the quality of the installer. A great brand installed carelessly looks worse and fails faster than a mid-tier brand installed with precision. Ask your installer for references and visit a working job if possible.
Haven Lighting
Haven is one of the newest entrants in the premium permanent lighting category and has built a strong reputation quickly. Key characteristics:
- App quality — Haven's app is consistently rated as one of the best in the category. Scheduling, scenes, and holiday presets are intuitive and reliable.
- Brightness — Haven nodes are among the brightest available, which matters on homes with tall rooflines or large setbacks from the street.
- Color accuracy — Haven uses a four-chip RGBW node (red, green, blue, and a dedicated warm white chip), which produces cleaner, truer whites than systems that mix RGB to approximate white.
- Warranty — 5 years on hardware, 10+ years on LED nodes.
- Price — premium tier. Expect to pay 10–15% more per foot than mid-tier brands.
- Installer network — Haven is a dealer network brand; installation quality varies by dealer.
Gemstone Lights
Gemstone is one of the most widely installed permanent lighting brands in the country and a strong mid-market option. Key characteristics:
- Installer network — Gemstone has one of the broadest installer networks, which means competitive pricing in most markets.
- App quality — functional and reliable, with regular updates. Not as polished as Haven's but solid for everyday use.
- Brightness — good. Gemstone nodes are bright enough for most residential applications.
- Color accuracy — standard RGB nodes. Whites are warm but can appear slightly yellow compared to RGBW systems.
- Warranty — 3 years on hardware, 7 years on LED nodes.
- Price — mid-market. Generally 5–15% less expensive than premium brands.
- Established track record — Gemstone has been in the market longer than most competitors, with real data on long-term performance.
Trimlight
Trimlight was one of the first major permanent LED roofline brands and helped define the category. Key characteristics:
- App quality — Trimlight's app is well-developed with a large library of pre-built scenes and holiday patterns.
- Patented channel design — Trimlight uses a proprietary mounting channel that some installers prefer for its clean, finished appearance.
- Brightness — strong. Trimlight nodes perform well at distance.
- Warranty — varies by dealer. Typically 2–5 years on hardware.
- Price — premium tier, similar to Haven.
- Dealer dependence — Trimlight is dealer-only, and quality varies significantly by installer. Research your local dealer carefully.

EverLights
EverLights is a direct-to-consumer brand that also supports professional installation. Key characteristics:
- Direct-to-consumer option — EverLights sells direct, which appeals to homeowners who want to buy and self-install or use a general contractor.
- App quality — good, with regular updates. EverLights has invested heavily in software.
- Brightness — mid-range, adequate for most residential applications.
- Price — generally the most competitive of the major brands, especially for DIY-installed systems.
- Professional installation — available through authorized dealers; pricing approaches mid-market brands when professionally installed.
- Warranty — 2 years standard, extendable.

What questions to ask your installer about brand choice
When getting quotes for permanent lighting, ask these brand-specific questions:
- Which brand do you install, and why did you choose it? A good installer should have a clear, non-marketing answer.
- Can I see a working installation using that brand? Nothing replaces seeing it in person.
- Who handles warranty claims — you or the brand? The installer relationship matters as much as the manufacturer warranty.
- What node replacement costs look like after warranty? Individual node replacement should be under $5/node.
- Do you install multiple brands? Installers who work with multiple systems can make an honest recommendation; single-brand dealers can't.
Our recommendation
Heartland Holiday Lights installs Haven permanent lighting in Western Iowa and the Omaha metro. We evaluated the major systems before choosing it, and we'll make a specific recommendation on styles and packages based on your home's roofline, your priorities (brightness vs. app features vs. price), and what we've seen perform best in Iowa and Nebraska winters.
If you're still deciding between permanent and seasonal service, we can help with that too. We installed seasonal lights for years before going permanent-only, so we'll tell you plainly if seasonal is the better fit. Visit our permanent lighting page or call (712) 227-5566 for a free consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Haven and Trimlight are generally considered the premium tier for brightness and app quality. Gemstone is a strong mid-market option with the broadest installer network. EverLights is the most cost-competitive. The installer's quality often matters more than the brand — ask for references and visit a working installation.
Haven uses RGBW nodes (with a dedicated white chip) for better white color accuracy and is generally brighter. Haven's app is slightly more polished. Gemstone has a broader installer network and lower price point. Both are solid systems — the difference comes down to priorities and budget.
Trimlight's patented channel design and established software make it a premium product. Whether it's worth the premium vs. Gemstone or EverLights depends heavily on your installer — Trimlight's dealer network varies significantly in installation quality.
EverLights is the main brand that supports direct-to-consumer DIY installation. For other brands, professional installation is required or strongly recommended. Roofline work at height involves real risk, and improper installation can void warranties.
Quality permanent LED systems are designed to last 10–20+ years. LED nodes themselves rarely fail under normal use. The aluminum channel and mounting hardware are virtually maintenance-free. Individual node failures after 7–10 years are inexpensive to repair.
Yes — all major permanent lighting brands are built for outdoor use in extreme weather, including Iowa ice, snow, and wind. The LED nodes, wire, and channel are fully weatherproof. Cold temperatures actually improve LED efficiency slightly.
