Yes — emphatically. Smart lighting systems like Haven are engineered for permanent outdoor exposure in all climates. IP67-rated sealing handles rain, snow, and ice. LED nodes perform BETTER in cold temperatures. Aluminum channels withstand wind, hail, and UV. The hardware is built for 15–20 years of Iowa weather.
Iowa weather vs. smart lighting: the matchups
Ice storms: The aluminum channel's smooth, angled profile sheds ice naturally. The channel is sealed, so water doesn't enter and freeze inside. LED nodes are sealed in IP67-rated housings. Bottom line: ice storms are a non-issue.
Extreme cold (-20°F): LEDs actually perform more efficiently in cold temperatures. The semiconductor physics work in your favor — LEDs produce slightly more light per watt in cold weather. All connectors and seals are rated for -40°F. Bottom line: cold makes your lights work better.
High winds: The channel is mechanically fastened to your fascia with screws — the same mounting method as rain gutters. Wind resistance is comparable to your gutter system. Bottom line: if your gutters can handle it, the lighting channel can.
Hail: The aluminum channel protects the LED nodes from direct impact. The channel may show cosmetic dimpling from large hail (like aluminum siding), but function is unaffected. Bottom line: function is unaffected.
Rain and humidity: IP67 rating means the system is tested for temporary submersion (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes). All connections use sealed, waterproof connectors. Bottom line: rain is irrelevant.
UV exposure: The aluminum channel is UV-resistant by nature. LED node housings use UV-stabilized materials rated for 15–20 years of direct sun. Bottom line: UV degradation is accounted for in the lifespan rating.
Snow load: The channel profile is too narrow for significant snow accumulation. Snow slides or blows off. Bottom line: snow load is a non-issue.

The 15–20 year lifespan
The 15–20 year lifespan rating accounts for continuous outdoor exposure in climates like Iowa's. It's based on: LED rated lifespan (50,000+ hours), aluminum channel corrosion resistance, sealed connector longevity, and UV-stabilized material degradation curves.
In 15–20 years, you may want to upgrade to newer technology anyway — not because the current system failed, but because future systems will have even more capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Power outages. After a storm knocks out power, the system restarts automatically when power returns. Occasionally, a controller needs a manual restart — unplug and re-plug the transformer. Takes 30 seconds.
We haven't experienced a weather-related system failure. Individual node failures can happen (rare), and those are simple replacements.
The transformer includes surge protection. For homes in lightning-prone areas, a whole-house surge protector is recommended.
